Bowl of Beauty Peony

This morning I picked the last of my peonies, to combine with foxgloves, ferns and ivy for a flower arrangement. It is a sad thing to see the end of the peonies – they are spectacular in the garden and make lovely cut flowers.

The peony pictured is ‘Bowl of Beauty,’ an easy to find and reasonably priced variety. ‘¬†This peony form is outstanding for it’s ability to hold the flowers erect, rather than drooping like the fully double forms, such as ‘Festiva Maxima.’¬† That is also a lovely peony, and I have both in my garden – I simply cut ‘Festiva Maxima’ blossoms for the house more often, and allow ‘Bowl of Beauty’ to make a spectular display in the garden.
